What Stuff of Storybooks is All About?
Hi, my name is Jake and I love children's books. I live in the Pacific Northwest and by way of bragging, I recently was given the pleasure of introducing Sophie Blackall (Finding Winnie, A Fine Dessert, and many more) at our Children's Literature Conference. I have always loved books, but it took me working my way through my "I'm too cool for those books" phase (which entailed reading a lot of really depressing stories) to realize that books for children and teens is where its at. Complex ideas presented with grace and hope, high adventure, magic, discovery, all of these are hallmarks of children's literature and thus why I love them so much.
I applied for a job at a library in the last year and realized, the moment I stepped out of the inteview, that what I really wanted to do was recommend books for children and teens to those who would benefit. I'm often asked for read aloud recommendations, for the latest greatest picture book, and am always pushing my all time favorites into the hands of anyone who will listen.
I am currently reading through all of the Caldecott Award Winners in a sort of March Madness style bracket with my own kids (follow on Instagram #caldecottbracketchallenge) and doing the same with the Newbery Award Winners in my own reading (follow #newberybracketchallenge).
So I wanted to create an outlet for my recommendations. A place where I can keep the lists I create, provide the ability for others to ask for lists who are not just close enough to text me, and to let my list making free. I hope that if this service serves you well, that you'll recommend it on to your friends and family.
